Nutrihub, an initiative of the ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR), is set to host a two-day International Nutri Cereal Convention (INCC) starting November 27. The convention, organized in the International Year of Millets, revolves around the theme ‘Mainstreaming Millets Now and Beyond 2023.’

With participation from representatives of 19 countries, including Takayuki Hagiwara from the Food and Agriculture Organisation and Vijay Paul Sharma, Chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), the convention is expected to draw around 850 stakeholders. This diverse group comprises Indian State millet missions, start-ups, exhibitors, entrepreneurs, self-help groups, farmer producer organizations, nutritionists, and dieticians.

The primary objectives of the conference include promoting a more sustainable and nutritious global food system, emphasizing millets’ role from farms to plates, raising awareness about the significance of millets, and facilitating the promotion of new millet-based products.

C Tara Satyavathi, Director of IIMR, highlighted the conference’s role in advocating for a sustainable and nutritious global food system with a specific focus on millets. The event is expected to contribute to increased awareness of the importance of millets and the development of innovative millet-based products.

B Dayakar Rao, Principal Scientist and CEO of Nutrihub, mentioned that the conference would lead to the preparation of a strategy paper based on the discussions and insights shared during the event. This strategy paper is likely to outline key recommendations and action plans to further advance the mainstreaming of millets in the global food system.
